  • NDIS Supported Independent Living (SIL) Western Sydney

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS-funded support that helps people with disability live as independently as possible in their own home or shared accommodation. Ideal Community Services is registered to provide SIL support to NDIS participants across Western Sydney, including Mount Druitt, Blacktown, Penrith and Parramatta.

What is SIL under the NDIS?

SIL covers the hands-on support and supervision you need in your home, day and night. It is funded under the NDIS as a Core Support and is designed for participants who need regular daily assistance. SIL funding pays for the people who support you — not the property you live in.

SIL support can include:

  • Personal care and daily living assistance (hygiene, dressing, meals)
  • Overnight or daytime assistance depending on your level of need
  • Skill-building to support greater independence over time
  • Safe management of complex support needs
  • Household tasks within a shared or individual living arrangement

Who Can Access NDIS SIL Support?

SIL is available to NDIS participants whose support needs require more assistance than standard in-home supports can provide. To access SIL funding in your NDIS plan, your Support Coordinator or LAC can assist with a SIL assessment. Ideal Community Services can work with your Support Coordinator to develop a SIL roster of care and support you through the NDIS process.

Frequently Asked Questions — NDIS SIL

Is SIL the same as accommodation?
No. SIL funding pays for your support workers, not your housing. Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is a separate NDIS funding category that covers housing modifications and purpose-built housing for eligible participants.

How do I know if I need SIL in my NDIS plan?
If you need daily hands-on support to live safely and independently — such as personal care, overnight assistance or complex daily living support — SIL may be appropriate for your plan. Speak with your Support Coordinator or Local Area Coordinator.

Does Ideal Community Services help with SIL assessments?
Yes. We can provide information about our SIL support and work alongside your Support Coordinator during the assessment process. Contact us to find out more.

We also provide NDIS disability support, household tasks assistance and community participation support for NDIS participants across Western Sydney.
